When you meet someone for the first time, your smile and teeth are usually the first thing they will notice. Since you never get a second chance to make a first impression, it is important to keep your teeth looking as good as possible. Fortunately, there are many restorative and cosmetic dental procedures that are offered by our Mississauga office that can fix any problem you might have. Here are some of the most common procedures:
Every person wants a bright and healthy smile and at Kerhoulas Dental, we can help you achieve that natural white smile. Sometimes referred to as bleaching, there are two main ways available to go about whitening teeth.
Our in-office Teeth Whitening option makes it possible to safely and effectively whiten your teeth in a two hour appointment. The dental professional will apply a barrier around the gums to protect the soft tissue. Then a thin layer of gel will be applied to each tooth and is chemically activated without the use of any lights or lasers. It’s ideal for those who want instant whitening gratification. You will also receive custom made trays to follow up at home and for maintenance.
We also offer a professional “home whitening” alternative, which is more comfortable for some patients who want to whiten their smile. If you choose this option, impressions of your mouth will be taken and custom-made trays will be made. You will apply the whitening gel in these trays and you will wear them for 30 minutes a day for 10-14 days. You will notice a beautiful and whiter smile after the treatment is completed.
Veneers are pieces of thin porcelain that are used with the purpose of immitating the appearance of real teeth. They also provide resilience and strength that is similar to that of real tooth enamel. A dentist will usually begin the veneer process by giving the patient a smile analysis. This will let the dentist figure out what they need to do in order to give the patient the smile they desire. A diagnostic mock-up is often used to allow patients to virtually try on veneers to allow them to see what the final veneers will look like. A set of porcelain veneers is custom made for each patient, ensuring that they will bond perfectly to the patent’s teeth.
Many people have crooked teeth or gaps between their teeth that are unsightly. In the past, fixing these things required wearing traditional braces for at least one year. Sometimes, a person might have to wear them for as long as three years. However, now there is an alternative that can give you the smile you want in only three to eight months. A minor in-office procedure is performed along with standard orthodontic treatment. Periodontal surgery may be required one week after the patient receives their braces. This is performed under local anesthesia. Generally, a patient feels less pain with the accelerated procedure than is caused by traditional orthodontics.
Tooth reshaping is one of the very few immediate treatments currently available in cosmetic dentistry. Dental contouring is a procedure that is performed to fix overlapping, cracked, chipped or crooked teeth in only a single session. Under certain circumstances, dental contouring can also be used as a substitute for braces. Subtle changes are also able to be made, such as a small amount of reduction and the addition of tooth-colored laminate. This fast procedure can create a smile anyone would be proud of. Tooth reshaping and dental contouring is often used to change the position, shape and length of a patient’s teeth.
